The boys varsity tennis team has official begun preparing for their upcoming season.

The small team of eight players practices Monday through Friday after school. When extra practice is needed, they come out on Saturday’s bright and early in morning

“This year we are low on numbers,” says Head Coach Cathleen Fitzgibbon. “This means that we will be relying on every single player to be committed to the team and attend all practices and meets.”

This season Fitzgibbon hopes on advancing to sectionals by placing her best players in doubles and being consistent with hitting the ball.

“The strength of this year’s team has to be the depth in players,” says Fitzgibbon. “There no weak spots in the roster.”

Last year the boys placed third in conference, only two points behind the second place team. The players performed rather well considering the numerous changes in the line-up.

This year the team will be lead by team captains Seniors Michael Soto and Carlos Oliva.

“I feel confident about this year,” says Junior Juan Castaneda. “We are all working hard to have a successful year.”

The boys will have their first meet at Brother Rice High School on March 22.
