Monday, Nov. 6 the Cardinal wrestling hit the mats with their first official practice to kick off the 2017-2018 season.

Coach Joe Ambrosino has high expectations for his team this year after a disappointing 5-15 season last year.

A winning season is definitely within reach with stand out returning seniors Jason Nako and Lemuel Cartman leading the way.

Nako had an outstanding 30 wins and 7 losses last season and Cartman turned in an equally impressive performance with 27 wins and 9 losses.

“Nako and Cartman’s work ethic is great and They have don’t quit attitude” says Ambrosino. “They are always the first ones here and last to leave.”

Nako and Cartman bring the same discipline and drive from the wrestling mat into the classroom. Both wrestlers have grade point averages exceeding 4.0, a true testament to the Eisenhower student-athlete mentality.

There are plenty more things to look forward to this year like the District 130 meet on January 11 where Eisenhower will take on rivals Shepard and Richards.

Adding leverage to this year’s team are transfer students Kobe Howard (Saint Rita) and Tj Butler (Saint Lawrence) who put up great records at their respected schools.

“This year will be nice with a full lineup for every weight class,” says Ambrosino. ”As well as the transfers that will contribute to the team”

The cardinal wrestling team will be looking forward to starting their season on a positive note during the first meet against Homewood Flossmoor Nov. 22.
