Mathletes, run by Ms. Linda Gruchot, math teacher, goes undefeated in their new season so far with a current record of 5-0.

Gruchot says their toughest rivals are Lemont High School and Reavis High School.

Mathletes have competitions once per month, but they practice every Tuesday and Thursday.

Mathletes competes in timed competitions;  3 topics and 4 questions. Each question is worth 10 points. There is also an oral competition which is 50 points.

“We practice old contest sheets, go over formulas, review formulas and concepts, and practice using graphing calculators,” says Gruchot.

These methods seem to have been helping the team to victory the past two seasons.

This isn’t the first time that Mathletes have had a winning season.Last year they were crowned Conference champions. Eight students went to state last year.

A member of the team, senior Sarah Haskell says that the team earned the victories because they work well together.

The mathletes training starts in August with their season starting the second week of September.

Their next competition is Dec. 6 and will compete at Regionals on Feb. 24. The team is hoping to return to the state competition in May.
