We’re here, we’re queer, let’s talk about it!

The Gay Straight Alliance at Eisenhower visited Elmhurst College for the Big Queer Gathering on Friday, Dec. 7, 2018 from 4-10 p.m.

The BQG had an hour and a half Q&A, followed by workshops that were each an hour long, and a two hour dance and dessert social for the rest of the time. The workshops included talks about mental health, How to be a Trans Ally, LGBTQ+ Media, and many more.

GSA went to the after school event, which included students Chris Espinoza, junior, Haily Hecht-O’Connor, senior, Alieah Villarini, freshman, and Evelyn Dragan, junior. GSAs from Shepherd and Richards also attended the BQG.

“It’s a wonderful experience for students to visit a college that is so welcoming to the LGBT community. Along with meeting students from other high school GSAs, our students had the opportunity to hear from Elmhurst College LGBT students who were so recently high school students themselves.” said Ms. Aimee Rizzo, english teacher. Rizzo sponsors GSA this year.

“I like meeting new people that are like me. When I find people who are interested in the same things, I open up and have fun.” says Taylor Moulder, junior, who attends Lyons Township High School.

The BQG is yearly and registration has to be made ahead of time in order to enter the event. For more information, click here.
